Records set on economy

The government's financial position is increasingly strong. In May tax receipts set a new record for the month: R$27.1bn (US$11.3bn). This is the most the government has ever taken in any May and 2% more, in real terms, than it managed in May 2004. Revenues in May were, however, 12% down on April 2005's: this is because income tax is mostly paid in April.
